Who we are:
Osborne Jones
An introduction:
We are David Osborne and David-Gwyn Jones.
We are songwriters and musicians. We met in our teens in the Midlands of England and have worked together and with others on projects and in bands ever since then.
Our latest release is Twang…which is the follow up to our album Ever Closer. Twang! was produced by Teddy Thompson and Rick Shea and features players such as Albert Lee, Will McFarlane and Kenny Vaughan.
Our song Sometime Soon won The Gram Parsons Guitar Pull Song Contest in 2013 and is currently the theme to renowned environmentalist Bill Macdonald’s acclaimed short film Sometime Soon, A Wake Up Call.
Other previous releases of ours include Only Now, Out Of Blue Yonder, Long Night Moon and the songs and music for Saskia –The Album.
Osborne Jones are part of the New Traditional Country scene that is growing in LA and elsewhere. In LA this centers on The Grand Ole Echo and Ronnie Mack’s Barn Dance and includes people like Rosie Flores…James Intveld…I See Hawks In LA and Rick Shea from Dave Alvin’s Guilty Men – who produced our previous album Only Now. Rick also plays pedal steel guitar on our new album Ever Closer.
We have also worked with some of the best players in and around the London scene and recorded extensively at leading studio Rodel Sound.
We have many influences…particularly the Masters of Country Music like George Jones, Buck Owens and Merle Haggard. We also really like the Gram Parsons school of contemporary Country such as The Flying Burrito Brothers…Sweetheart of the Rodeo period Byrds and Emmylou etc and the tradition they created. We try and get as close to that spirit as we can. In fact we both came to Country music via early Country Rock and that led us towards the classics and beyond.
David splits his time between LA and London and plays guitar…bass…pedal steel…keyboards and ukulele. David has played in a number of bands over the years including the Detroit Rock Award winners The Flexibles.
David-Gwyn lives in London and plays guitar…mandolin and mouth harp and has a true traditional country voice. He has played and sang in many Country and Irish bands in London and the South East…everywhere from a huge variety of pubs…functions…clubs like The Mean Fiddler and The Bottom Line to both Wembley and Sheffield Arenas.
For us it is primarily about the songs – and getting them honed to perfection then having them heard and sung by as many people as possible. We’re very prolific and are continually writing – and have built up a canon of many fine tunes.
Twang! represents the pinnacle of our achievements so far with 10 carefully crafted new songs performed with wonderful contributions by much acclaimed artists as Albert Lee and produced by Teddy Thompson and Rick Shea.
We hope you enjoy the songs and music of Osborne Jones
Thank you and our warmest regards
David Osborne and David-Gwyn Jones
